Service project in March: Empty Bowls

On March 7 2013, we gather at Art As You Like It to paint Easter eggs or other ceramics, as well as contribute to an annual fundraiser for Place of Hope called Empty Bowls.

Empty Bowls is a community collaboration project that creates awareness for hunger, homelessness and a community that" cares about its underserved population".  Art As You Like It offers hand-painted bowls, painted by their customers and friends, to the annual soup supper fundraiser that is held each year in March.


MOMS Club members come to Art As You Like It to paint the bowls, and then all of the bowls are donated to the fundraiser benefiting Place of Hope. The fundraiser, a soup supper event, is a gathering of community where soups, breads, and desserts are enjoyed, as well as some local entertainment and a silent auction.

The 2013 fundraiser will be held at Calvary Community Church in St. Cloud, MN, on Sunday, March 24th, 2013 from 12pm- 4pm.

MOMS Club support New Beginnings and Toys for Tots

Movie Ticket Fundraiser update:
We raised $101.40 for New Beginnings. Plus a $1 donation from Mandy for a super grand total of. $102.40. The fundraiser may be repeated in the spring.

At the Members' Social in November, we voted to have the income from our movie ticket sales go to New Beginnings and to additionally collect new, unwrapped Christmas gifts for our local U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program.

For those of you who are still unfamiliar with the movie ticket fundraiser, here is the short version:

• You collect orders from your network on discounted movie tickets to Marcus Theatres (like our local Parkwood 18) or gift cards that can be used at theaters or resorts.  Think your book club or emails to friends and family who may be interested in giving the tickets as Christmas gifts, to employees, teachers etc.
• Turn in your movie tickets sales by December 5.
• Get the tickets the next week at the Members' Social holiday party, Thursday, December 13. 

You may also bring your new, unwrapped toys for the Toys for Tots to any board member or to the December social.

Thank you for your support in our giving and sharing to other moms and children. We're so proud that we as MOMS Club get the opportunity to support other moms in the area too.
 

Halloween at Country Manor

Every year, the Country Manor Assisted Living (Memory Care) have a little Halloween party with us and this year we were a perfect-sized crowd.  We visited, played a little and got treats.  Thank you to Country Manor for having us!

Service project in August

Homeless youth and your medicine cabinet -  What do the two things have in common?  They are both service projects the MOMS Club® board have decided to dedicate time to in August. Both rely on the extras in your bathroom cabinets. 

Our club has previously donated to Catholic Charities' SHY (Sustainable Housing for Youth) project, which provides training and help for homeless teenagers in the area.  The SHY project also provides packed backpacks as a first aid service for homeless teenagers and they rely on donations for the content of the backpacks.  We are awaiting a comprehensive list of the content but for now we are collecting:

Hotel soaps, shampoos etc.
Travel-sized (new) toiletries

Also, we give you a chance to safely dispose of your old medicine, prescription and over-the-counter.  Take this chance to get rid of those left-overs from the kids' ear infection two years ago.  Jen will take your old medicine to the county for safe disposal.

There will be two collection dates:
